San Diego!!

For Labor Day weekend we decided we just had to get out of here and do something fun. Thanks to Priceline and ebay we were able to get some good deals and head to San Diego for the weekend!!

We headed out Friday after I got off work and drove to Yuma to split up the drive. The drive was good and then we got checked into our cheap motel for the night. It turned out to be the scariest/worst place that we've ever stayed!! And here's a good idea: keep the AC off in the room, in Yuma, in the summer! It was SO hot when we got in there and after cranking the window AC unit, it took until 3am to cool off and then it was freezing! Awful! Thank goodness we were only there for about 10 hours.

We drove Saturday morning the few hours to the San Diego Zoo! We have the tiniest zoo here in Tucson, so this zoo was just a little overwhelming. It's so huge and I think we got lost a few times. We saw so many animals and fun things, although I'm not sure how much Preston really cared. He was way more excited and concerned with the stroller we rented from there. All he wanted to do was hold onto the side and walk with us. We also got one of those backpack leashes, which helped a little bit to keep him wrangled. He was such a trooper since he hadn't slept well the night before and we just kept going and going. Preston finally crashed on the tour bus we went on at like 3pm, and slept for only 30 minutes. With the zoo being so big and full of hills and lots and lots of walking, we were all pooped by the end of the day.

Only Preston can find a tractor to play with in the San Diego Zoo! So funny!

Looking a little tired and out of it...

Preston actually got a cold and cough while we were in San Diego which we felt bad about. Between that and how exhausted he was, it paid off for us because he slept in until 9:30am on Sunday, which means his parents did to. It felt so good! Sunday was our relaxed day of hanging out and going to the beach. We went to Mission Beach which was super busy, so after lots of driving around to find parking, we ended up on the way South end of the beach and found a great spot. It wasn't too busy where we were and even though it started out overcast, the sun came out and it was a perfect day. Preston absolutely LOVED the beach!!! He was laughing and screaming and running the entire time. He loved to play in the sand but his favorite game was to pick up the sand and run to the water and throw it in and then turn around and run from the waves. He also like to hold onto Steve's hands further into the water and have the waves go up to his chest. The water was really cold and his lips were turning blue but he was still laughing and having the greatest time. We had a picnic lunch and it was just a great time at the beach.

This kid was COVERED in sand!!

He loved digging with his Daddy!

We found these sunglasses in the sand with no owner in sight. Preston looked like quite the stud!

We gave him an Oreo as a special treat, it made for quite the face! I'm sure there was some sand in those mouthfuls of cookie.

Later that night we needed something to do so we headed to Seaport Village which we've never been to. It was actually cold which we weren't prepared for but it was so cute and fun to walk around. Preston loved looking at the "La-Ler" (water) and the boats.

We were more than a little bummed when our trip came to an end on Monday. The drive seemed a little long, but probably because we were already missing the fun we had in San Diego. Gotta love these little family vacations!!

This is 20 minutes into our drive home... the sign of a good vacation!

How did he like his backpack leash?? Adam hated it when we tried it at the zoo in Colorado Springs. Maybe I'll try again when he's a little older. Looks like you guys had a great time! Minus that room in Yuma. We had similar horror stories of cheap hotel rooms. Glad you were able to get away and relax for the long weekend :) I miss the beach.
