So this happened...

See the tan Yukon?  Yeah, that was Steve's.  I got a call from Steve at about 5:40pm on Tuesday, May 30th.  He said that he had been in a pretty serious accident and that he was fine but it would be a little while before he got home because he had to talk to the police and such.  I was kind of freaked out and then had texted him to remind him to take pictures of it.  He sent me these two pics... that's when I really got freaked out.  Seriously, it looks so bad!

So Steve was on his way home from work and he turns left at a smaller intersection to avoid the major road as a back way to get home.  He was in the intersection waiting to turn left when the light turned to red.  As some of the cars coming the other direction started stopping he started turning left.  That's when a car in the far lane just zoomed through the red light and smashed right into Steve.  The firetruck and ambulance came and they had to pry the other guy's door off to get him out.  He was taken in the ambulance to the hospital with what they thought was a broken ankle but no life threatening injuries.  Steve's airbag went off but he was fine.  We attribute that to him driving such a big vehicle.  Up until a few months ago he was driving a small, old Toyota Corolla and had he been driving that the outcome would've been much different.

One of the officers that arrived at the scene was someone from our ward, which made Steve (and I!) feel a lot better to have a familiar face there.  Steve gave his statement and then got a ride home from another officer.  The Yukon is totaled, which Steve knew from the beginning.  We are so so glad that Steve is safe since it could've been much worse but we are bummed that his "truck" didn't make it.  He loved that car and so did the kids.

Steve has had to do some back and forth calls with the insurance companies and wait for the official police report.  We are grateful that there were 3 different witnesses that all gave statements saying that the black car ran the red light.  So the insurance companies finally said the other guy is liable.  Now we wait for them to asses the Yukon and hopefully get us some money for it soon.  Steve has a co-worker friend who is in the National Guard and is in Utah for 3 weeks of training and has let Steve use his truck while he is gone.  We could've made one car work but it would've been pretty tricky.  So this was a life saver.

Steve was definitely sore the next day, and actually much worse and very stiff the 3rd and 4th day.  That was no fun for him, but considering one of the insurance ladies said the other guy said he had 2 broken feet (!), Steve can handle being sore!  It definitely shook him, and I, up quite a bit.  I have never had a car accident that require a firetruck and ambulance or the air bag deploying.  That is the real deal and it's scary!  So grateful he is ok!
