My Dad's Visit!

Our summer got a little crazy once August hit... My dad came into town on July 30th to hang out with us for about a week.  They left on the morning of Friday, August 5th to go down to Utah to stay with my grandpa and go to my nephew Benji's, baptism on Saturday... Steve's family got here Friday afternoon.  My parents and grandpa came back up just for Sunday, August 7th when the babies were blessed.  Anyways, my dad getting here was kind of the kick off to all of the craziness! We had fun while he was here going to the zoo, trips to the movies for the kids and the grown ups and going exploring for Steve, my dad, Preston and Abby.

So one of our favorite kid shows is called Odd Squad on PBS.  We have all gotten into it this summer (even the grown ups!) and they had an Odd Squad movie that we had waited weeks for.  So we decided we needed to have an "odd" dinner to go with it.  Grilled cheese made out of angel food cake and orange frosting, hot dogs that were bananas with peanut butter and jelly condiments, and Preston's own cyclops sandwich creation.  We had fun!
We were celebrating Fish Day!  Our own made up holiday... it started as a joke because the grown ups wanted to watch the ultra cheesy movie Sharknado a year or two ago and so we had fish day where we decorated and watched Finding Nemo for the kids and then watched Sharknado after they went to bed.  It was the 4th movie this summer.  Fun to celebrate totally random stuff!

Seeing them drive away on Friday, August 5th was one of the hardest things.  I had been anxiously dreading seeing my mom and my dad leave.  My mom was here for over 9 weeks... that is a long time!  She became a part of our immediate family for the summer.  The kids loved having her around  all the time and I loved having her here.  She was such a huge help with the bigger kids and with the babies and it was such a blessing to have her here to help for so long.  I honestly can't imagine how things would have gone had we not had her here to help.  I am so grateful for such an amazing mom who was there for me so much when I needed it most.  We thankfully got to see them quickly two days later but I knew that this was the end of having her (and him) here for real.  That is a lot for a hormonal, sleep deprived woman to deal with... there were a lot of tears!
