Camping Fun!

This past Friday all four of us headed off on a camping adventure.  Steve and Preston have been camping a few times but this was the first time our whole family went (since Preston was like 6 months old) but I told Steve that we would give it a shot before the end of summer.  Steve found us a great camp ground in Island Park about an hour and a half from our house.  It was a perfect spot with a little path right to the water of the lake.  It was a lot hotter than we had expected (about 90) which wasn't great but was ok.  The water and beach were actually super muddy and kind of gross so we didn't play in the water much but the kids had fun running around and getting dirty.

Steve did a great job of setting up camp and we enjoyed hot dogs for dinner.  We took a big walk and did some exploring (or going on adventures if you ask Preston).

This girl was covered in dirt the entire time!
Preston's little tool belt that Steve found.  So cute!
We of course had to have smores, Abby's first!  I may or may not have had 3, love those things and they just taste better when you're camping! We told stories around the fire and let the kids stay up late before reading scriptures in the tent and putting them to bed.  Abby was a trouble maker of course and wanted to get up and chat but eventually fell asleep.  Steve and I relaxed by the fire for awhile before heading to bed ourselves.

When we went to bed it was just a little chilly but it got REALLY cold while we slept.  Our tent isn't really built for the cold and we hadn't bundled up as good as we could have.  Abby even woke up in the night because she had gotten out of her blankets and was cold so she slept the rest of the night snuggled up to me.  To our surprise the kids actually slept until about 8:15am.  We had a great breakfast of pancakes and bacon and just hung out and played before packing up and heading out of there at about noon.

Both kids were pretty darn tired and ready to go home but on the way home we took the scenic route and stopped at Mesa Falls.  So pretty but again it was way hotter than we had expected (or dressed for) and we had really tired kids on our hands.  Abby even tripped and cut her chin which didn't help much.  We had planned on having a picnic but our crowd was too tired for that so we just ate our sandwiches in the car on the way home.

We were all exhausted and super dirty when we got home but we really had a great time.  We didn't know what to expect for our first family camp out but we were pleasantly surprised.  It was pretty and relaxing and the kids had a lot of fun.  Now we're trying to see if we can squeeze in one more camping trip before it gets too cold!
