Baby #3!!!

Steve and I had to be at the hospital at 5:30am (yikes!).  Such a weird feeling to finally be at July 15th.  We kept thinking that she might come early that we couldn't believe we had made it to that day.  We got all checked in and into our room.  We had an awesome nurse and she got me all hooked to the monitors, got my IV started and asked me a million questions.  Everything went smoothly except for a quick bout of nausea, a combination of being super hungry, thirsty, and nerves.  Thankfully it passed after only a few minutes.  The anesthesiologist came in and talked to us and got some things going.  After a little bit of waiting, Steve got suited up and we made our way into the operating room.  The only hiccup of the day was that my spinal didn't take.  I was tingly but not numb at all, not good!  They had to sit me up and do it again.  Pretty painful and uncomfortable but he told us the alternative was general anasthesia, which we didn't want to do!  Thankfully it worked right away but it was definitely weird and felt a little scary to have the doctor and all the nurses just standing there staring and waiting and making us wonder if it was a bigger deal than we thought it was.  The anesthesiologist told us that this was the first time this has happened to him in 5 years and he kept apologizing up and down.

Only minutes after the c-section started, at 8:06am, Kaley Mae Wilker was born!  She actually started crying before she was all the way out, got passed off to the nurses and put those lungs to work!  She screamed and screamed.  She weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz. and 20.5 inches, exactly the same as Abby when she was born.  After getting all cleaned up they handed her back to Steve and she instantly stopped crying, and I got to see my baby girl!  I love that time of us seeing her for the first time.  After a few minutes she started making some grunting noises so they handed her back to the nursery to make sure her lungs were alright.  Turned out she had swallowed a little bit of fluid at birth and she was fine.

The operating room has a window right into the nursery where they hand her off.  Makes us think it's a drive thru for babies!

Love that Steve and Kaley got to be right by me while they stitch me up.

I got wheeled to our room and we had to wait a little bit before they brought her into see me.  Holding her for the first time was amazing.  She was (is!) absolutely beautiful.  We got to just love on her and I got to nurse her and then they took her for first bath which Steve got to watch and take pictures.

Apparently she cried for most of her bath except she loved having her hair washed and scrubbed.

We got to see her hair once it was all clean, cute dark hair, not as much as Abby had but still a good amount.
