Well, we actually have news... Steve got a JOB!! Here's a little back story of how this came about...
One of Steve's former counselors from Elder's quorum works for a company called Good2Go. They are a local company that owns/operates 50 gas station convenience stores. He really liked his job and although they didn't have any jobs listed Steve wanted to send a letter of interest to the CEO. Steve's friend said he should go for it and gave him the CEO's email address. Steve got a quick response asking to meet with him. Steve went in for a not-interview/interview. Steve said it was kind of weird, they seemed kind of scattered and he just wasn't sure what to think. The next day he was contacted by the CEO that he wanted to meet with Steve again, once again he wasn't sure what to think about the whole thing. This time around David (the CEO) was much more organized and had made a plan and had basically come up with a position for Steve and what his roles and responsibilities would be. Since they are a newer company that has grown fast they are needing a lot of help getting vendors and all the locations on the same page. Basically get in there learn the company inside and out and fix any problems and streamline processes. This is a really good start in this company and a great direction for the future. It's not in marketing but more of operations but it's something that Steve is excited about and feels he can do really well.
We had a few days of back and forth texts with David which made us nervous if this was going to happen at all. Also some negotiations back and forth about salary with no luck (it was worth a shot!). But thankfully we got the official job offer and were able to feel a huge sense of relief. He accepted and we got an official start date of November 14th!!
Honestly we still feel a bit in shock about this. Even though we've been waiting for this for a LONG time it still kind of snuck up on us. This wasn't a job we sought after or thought was "just right" and yet here we are. It's really hard to believe that over two years of prayers, frustration, patience (or lack thereof), and a whole lot of uncertainty have suddenly come to end. That's not to say we are now on easy street. Budgets will still be quite tight, we still have medical bills, credit card bills, not to mention 3 in diapers, and all the expenses that come with 5 kids. Plus it is so hard not to think of all of the future expenses like needing to move to a bigger house, needing a bigger car like a Suburban, etc.
More than anything we are grateful. We are so grateful for this job (which they created just for him which is flattering!). And although it has been a long confusing road, we have faith that this was all just part of the Lord's timing. We can't help but to feel so blessed to have had Steve home with the kids and I for so long. He was home for Kaley's first year which was so so hard, he was home for my twin pregnancy which required lots of appointments and me needing a lot of help especially towards the end. And he got to be here for the first 5 months of the twins lives. Not many husbands/fathers can say that they have been such an integral part of there children's lives when they are so young. Steve has been a HUGE help to me. We really have been partners taking care of the kids. He would run errands for me, take the kids places just to get them out of the house, pick up the kids from school, and stay home with the kids so I could easily run errands or get things done. In so many ways I feel as though I have cheated at this mom thing for over two years because I have had so much help from Steve. But instead of feeling guilty about that I will take it for the blessing in disguise that it was.
Which leads to my next point... CHANGE! We have a lot of changes ahead for all of this. For Steve it will be challenging mentally, physically, and emotionally to go back to work. He's excited yet quite nervous to dig in and prove himself. It will be a big adjustment for him and I'm sure he will have some long days and tired nights ahead. For the kids it will be hard to not have him home quite as much. Especially for Kaley who has had him home for her whole life, I'm sure it will be weird for her. And for me, it means I am on my own while he is at work. I'm grateful the twins are out of the newborn stage but it's still challenging taking care of two babies, a toddler and two school age children. No more quick trips to the store by myself during the day and it takes so much time and effort to take the babies anywhere. I'm really not complaining since these changes are for a good reason, it just means re-learning how we do things and figuring out some new routines and such.
All of those adjustments are why we pretty happy that this job doesn't involve a move to another city/state along with it. This feels like enough of a change without adding all of that stress and newness to the mix. It actually a relief that we don't have to move. We have come to love it here (even with the awful, cold winters!) and feel like it's a really nice place to raise our family. Although we know we can't stay in this house forever (and will probably sign a year lease soon so we can stop being month to month) for now we have an amazing ward family, another blessing to us having stayed here this whole time. They really care about us and our kids and the support has been incredible during this trial.
Not going to lie we have a lot of anxiety and stress with him starting this job on Monday. This past week has almost felt like the last week of summer vacation or something as we've tried to enjoy it and get things done before his big day.
Oh and I have to document... We went to Cafe Rio to celebrate his new job and when I picked up the kids from school and told them we were going out to dinner, they of course asked why. I told them that Daddy had gotten a job. Preston's face lit up and he said, "He did?! He got a job?!" with the hugest smile on his face and so much excitement in his voice. Preston knows that this has been a long time coming and knows that we've been praying about it every night. It touched me to see how happy he was. Since then when it's his turn for family prayer he prays that Daddy can be brave and do a good job when he starts his new job. It is so sweet.
