A long day...

The plan for yesterday was to go to Mesa to visit Steve's cousin Sarah and her husband and then go to the D-Backs game. After being delayed by way too long at a Wendy's in North Tucson to feed the pregnant lady, we drove about 2 miles before having to abruptly stop on the freeway. There was a huge, and I mean huge, accident. We were as close you could be without actually witnessing what happened. It was a mess with power lines down across both sides of the freeway, a semi on fire, a truck turned the wrong way through the barrier and another very smashed SUV. We ended up on the shoulder of the freeway parked right next to one of the many firetrucks. There was, however, a very nice fireman that made sure I was doing ok and gave me some cold water and even offered for me to sit in the cab of the firetruck. After an hour in the heat they finally let about 10 of the cars that were sitting on the shoulder like us go through to simply get out of the way of the clean-up. They closed the freeway after we passed and didn't open it back up for about 4 more hours. It was a little scary of an experience and made us have to miss our stop in Mesa and instead only go to the game. Thankfully everything else went very smoothly the rest of the day and we were able to have a lot of fun!
