Preston and Steve have been planning on going camping the last Friday in June (this past Friday) all month and were so, so excited. Of course when the day finally comes, we get some of the worst storms we've had in a while. I've been doing really well being more positive and flexible with the weather here in Idaho. Cold and windy days are not a huge surprise in June, but in times where it ruins plans, that's when I get really frustrated with the weather. Steve debated back and forth but we thought it best for them to not go. Preston was super disappointed so we all switched gears and instead had camping in the basement.
Steve took the kids in his new truck (we call it the truck even though it's an suv) to drive up by the windmills and find some dirt roads to explore. They came back with the truck covered in mud so mission accomplished! Next up was some fun with Mentos and Diet Coke. We made hot dogs and tried to be authentic with our candle campfire! Steve and the kids got the tent and their sleeping bags all set up in the basement and then we had some fun eating and experimenting with marshmallows in the microwave. We read books with just flash lights and then it was time for bed. Mommy opted out of sleeping in the tent but the kids were excited. Preston and Steve still really want to go camping and are trying to find a new time to go but I think we were able to save the night and still have fun... and this way Abby and I got in on the fun too!
